Do you need to build or re-design a eCommerce store with hundreds, or even thousands of products?

If you have an existing store with a ton of products, finding a solution for rebuilding your store and update the technology behind it can be burdensome. Our company has built quite a few stores using various eCommerce solutions, and we can honestly say that the Jigoshop WordPress eCommerce plugin  is quickly evolving into one of, if not the best!

This video above explains the process of manually adding products to your Jigoshop WordPress Store, and then breaks down the process of automating the process with the Jigoshop Product Importer Deluxe plugin, an absolutely necessary upgrade if you have a large product offering.

Using the Product Importer Deluxe plugin, the process of loading products into your site is as simple as managing a spreadsheet. While it will take some time to set up your spreadsheet, it is a much better solution than manually adding hundreds of products to your store. However, before you do that, you will need to make some preparations to understand how the spreadsheet works, prepare your images, and more.

For example, if your store has sub-categories of products, you will need to identify these with a “>” symbol. For example,

[box] Billiards>Pool Balls[/box]

… means the product belongs in the main category of Billiards, in addition to the sub-category of Pool Balls.

On the other hand, if you have a product that belongs in two categories, you would use “|” to separate them. In this example,

[box]Billiards|Game Room[/box]

… would result in the product being put into the separate categories of Billiards & Game Room.

As it relates to images, adding images to your products involves first resizing the images (so they look good, technically you don’t have to, but they will likely look bad), identifying the name of the image within the spreadsheet, and then uploading the images to the proper folder.

Jigoshop will allow you to control a number of additional factors within the spreadsheet, including tax status, weight (for shipping), and more. All in all, it is a mature solution for basic or complex stores that run on the WordPress content management system, and we love it!
